Run by UCT students, we need YOU to volunteer for these projects:
Inkanyezi, TeachOut, and Township Debating League
Ubunye operates in 21 schools in Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Phillipi and Samora Machel with a volunteer base of over 300 local and international students. We offer consistent and committed service to hundreds of learners.
After signing up with a project, volunteers make a commitment for the year. This means going out to your assigned school once a week with your volunteer group, spending the afternoon with learners covering material relevant to your project, and assisting the learners in any other appropriate ways.
Why should you volunteer?
- Ubunye offers you a rewarding personal experience, where the work you do is met with real impact in learners’ lives
- Ubunye gives you the opportunity to work in a hands-on empowerment project with new people and different communities
- Ubunye provides a channel for you to fulfill your responsibility to give back to the South African community
Volunteers mentor and assist high-school learners in developing concrete post-school plans, researching and accessing opportunities, and developing life-skills such as CV-building. Mentor a small group of senior learners or assist in the InfoCentre. The Ambassador Programme targets non mentored schools to expand the impact of Inkanyezi’s core aims and benefitting more learners.

Township Debating League
Township Debating League uses debating to teach critical thinking and argumentation skills and to increase learners’ knowledge of current local and international affairs. At TDL tournaments, learners have the opportunity to debate against learners from other schools and to test their skills.
